Rough Cut

we uploaded this rough cut video onto various social networking sites with a note that as of yet, the credits and titles still needed adding; we wanted people to give us ideas on how we could improve our final cut, and this was our respone: 

these comments show the things we need to adapt to our rough cut to make our final cut as good as it can possibly be.

Poster Designs

1) this is a simple design, of the victim(fiona) and the two potential rapists, they're some of the main characters of the story, but it doesn't give a lot away about the film.

2) i thought that it would be nice to have the title of the film as the main body of the poster, and behind would be little colourful pictures of things that are relevant to the film such as drugs, alcohol, music notes, sick, condom, in order to make it look like a teen drama poster.

 

3) i liked the idea of having an arror on the poster to emphasise the idea of being lead down the wrong path, in order to suggest that the whole idea behind the film was planned which makes the story line worse. 

4) i thought that the eyes of the victim would be effective because it would show the innocence of her, and she is the main character in the film, i also encorporated the arrow within the font of the title 'misguided'

Film title font

when considering titles for our film, we wanted it to stand out and go with the theme of the film, however we didn't want it to look over decorative so that it looked out of place, we researched further fonts on dafont.com to find a suitable one. these are some of the title fonts we thought would be suitable:

1) this font along with the one below are the more decorative of the six, its bold, rounded and the letters are all the same size therefore wouldn't stand out too much, and distract from anything else on screen, this font is nice, but we don't think it's the most suitable out of the 6 for our title sequence. 

2) this font along with the one above are the more decorative of the six, however we think this title is a bold and teenage like, which would fit with the theme of our film but is a bit too decorative, a would take away the seriousness of the subject behind the film. 

3) we like this font design because it is bold, and the patchy design could signify the harsh reality of the rape within our film, however we don't believe that it would film well in our title sequence, it would stand out, but not in a good way. 

4) this is one of our favourite fonts of the 6 designs we chose, it is simple yet effective, the font isn't full of decorative design, and would fit well on our title sequence, however we thought that the smudges on the design look a little bit too creepy and would be more suitable for a horror film rather than a teen drama.

5) we liked this font because of the deign of the font, it would stand out and is distorted enough to make a statement about the film, but isn't too decorative, the letters are all the same size, therefore wouldn't be too distracting from everything else on screen; although the letters aren't in line, we don't think its the most suitable of the 6.

6) we think that this font is the most suitable for our  film because it will stand out, is teenage like and would film well with the theme of our film, it wouldn't take away the seriousness of the subject behind the film, but isn't as spooky as 4th design.

we've decided that design number 6 is the best font for our title sequence and is the one we'll be using within in and also on our posters and any other advertising materials we may design. 

Film Poster Idea

When designing this poster I considered a main image that would hint at the storyline without giving it away, and so I decided to use the image of a drink being spiked as it is an occurrence within our film. As well as this I considered superimposing two of the main characters into the poster beneath the actor credits at the top. The images I've chosen of the characters reflect how we would like the characters to be represented as Robyn, who is Fiona, looks quite timid and quiet, whereas Beth, who is Alice, looks quite confident and smug, which instantly creates an obvious contrast in the characters' personalities. As well as considering image use, I made sure that the colour palette complimented and worked well with the colours of the main image to give the poster an overall look of fluency.

Rough Poster Ideas

Here are two very rough drawings I did for a couple of poster ideas I had. Here is what I meant them to depict:

• The one on the left features Fiona: half of her is her as her normal self, as a 'geek', and the other half of her is her how she looked after getting ready for the party. This poster would clearly depict our film's main character to our audience and tell them that some sort of transformation takes places, therefore giving our audience a very vague insight into our film as they get a gist of something small that will happen without having any idea about what the whole premise of our film is. 
• The one on the left features the scene where in which Fiona's drink is spiked. This poster doesn't give away any of the characters in our film, but it gives away an event. However, the consequences of this event are unclear to the audience as the characters and the rest of the story are still a mystery to them.

I believe that both of these posters would work well for representing our film as they both have a sense of mystery to them as only very specific, small things are given away in each of them. This shows that there are hundreds of ways that a film can be depicted based on your choice of props, characters or events and how they're used to say something about your storyline. I think that there are lots of things within our storyline that relate to characters and events that we could manipulate into a poster to present our film in an exciting and mysterious way that will  intrigue an audience into wanting to see our film.

Film Poster Research

Film posters are designed to advertise films in ways that are eye catching and interest provoking by giving away subtle hints at genre and storyline without giving the whole film premise away.



The poster to the left is for the film The Last Song which is a Romantic Drama. The poster incorporates three images: one depicting a scene from the film and two of each character that are superimposed into the background to highlight the main characters of the film; the characters' expressions are used to outline perhaps the emotions of the characters and the theme(s) of the film. The colour palette of the poster is small so the colours aren't too vivid or clashing, and are used to compliment the colours within the main image on the poster, to give an overall sense of simplicity and a clear housestyle. The font used within the poster compliments the rest of the poster well as it is very simple and elegant, and works well with the images and colours to create a harmonious look, which could suggest that the film is about two people coming together, meaning that people's overall impressions of films could potentially be heavily based on the initial impression they get from their posters, making posters very important for advertising.





The poster to the right is for the film The Craft which is a Drama/Horror/Fantasy. The poster is made up of one photo, but it has been heavily posed to create a desired look that will make an audience make assumptions about the genre of the film and the characters within it. Once again, the colour palette used is a small one and it is used on the fonts and background to compliment the colours found within the main image. The font here also compliments the emotion the photo provokes as it's quite a mysterious, sinister one, and the costumes of the girls in the picture and their expressions also give a mysterious, sinister feel to the poster, which may hint at the horror genre within the film. This poster also features a strapline that helps to hint at the storyline as much as the image does, but once again it doesn't give it away, it simply creates suspense and interest.

Poster Ideas

From the research done on teen drama film posters, I have produced a few ideas of how we could portray our film within a film poster.

Idea One
My first idea is in someways a mash up of the film posters of 'Easy A' and 'Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen'. The poster will include a tile effect with our main character Fiona in the middle, dressed like a geek, wearing her glasses and looking slightly upset with whats happening around her. The outer pictures will be of the rest of the characters within our film, all of who will be pointing towards Fiona, while laughing.

Idea Two
My second idea consists of the main character, Fiona. The posters is a picture of Fiona, however she has two very different sides to her, one the geek she starts off as at the beginning of the film, then the party girl she becomes closer to the end. The poster will only show one overall photo of Fiona, which will be split in half. The name of the film will then be written underneath the feet of Fiona, with a caption placed underneath that to try and emphasise the point of the storyline.
